Exhibit 17 - Magazine Cover - Filters, Content Aware, Warp Tool
I had a lot of fun creating this magazine cover. This image is created from a video clip that I took when we were at Capitol Reef last Fall. I opened the clip in Photoshop, found the frame that I wanted, then I rasterized it to create a layer of the image that I wanted. I cropped the image to the size I wanted. I used content aware to fill in the extended blank part of the canvas that was on the bottom after the cropping. I also used the spot healing brush and the healing tools to take out the power lines that went across the entire image. Then I converted it to a smart object. I went into filters and applied the cutout filter to give it the reduced realization look. I had to go in and use the paint bucket to fill in some spots that didn’t turn out exactly how I wanted. Then I added the text. I converted the Utah to a smart object so I could just the warp transformation tool to give the bottom an arc because this is what the Utah, Life Elevated logo looks like. I used the color from the mountains for the color of the “Discovery Awaits” text.

Design Thought:
I wanted to created a magazine cover with some reduced realism that I have learned about in class. Since we love Capitol Reef National Park I decided to do it with an image from there. The statement Discovery Awaits is found on their website, so after I found the image I felt like that text would be perfect and it fit nicely in the sky with the left alignment. Utah, Life Elevated is a logo used on many advertisements for the national parks. I tried to replicate that and it also fit nicely in the blank spot in the sky.
